Fighting the 'Lieberman (D-CT)' label [updated]

Sat Feb 24, 2007 at 06:47:05 AM PDT

Please correct me if I'm wrong:  Joe Lieberman is explicitly NOT a Democrat.  He is a CFfLer (Connecticut for Lieberman)-er or an Independent.  Or god, if we must, an 'Independent-Democrat.'  But not a Democrat.

The recent Time piece (see below) about Lieberman flirting with party-switching that as of this writing is the 2nd 'most popular' article on the website, works on the claim that Lieberman is a Democrat.  But I thought he was not.  He explicitly, deliberately rejected the Democratic party--he lost the nomination, and ran as an independent in his state in '06.  He may caucus with the Democrats (like Bernie Sanders), but he is not a Democrat.

Am I mistaken?  Is it more complicated than this?  Because if I am not wrong, then the media establishment is, and continually repeats this inaccurate message.  What should do we do about this continual media inaccuracy?

On the candidacy of Russ Feingold

The possibility of electing Russ Feingold as the next President of the United States represents an urgent opportunity for the progressive movement.  For reasons I will elucidate below, I believe it essential that the progressive movement embrace him as their candidate immediately following the upcoming 2006 mid-term elections.  The reasons for this are three:

a)    The Hillary Clinton problem--framing Feingold as the true progressive
b)    The media problem--framing Feingold as the Democratic base's choice
c)    The McCain problem--framing Feingold as the real maverick

Poll

I do not consider myself a conservative or moderate Democrat--I am a solid progressive, and barring some unforeseen event (like Gore entering the race), in the Democratic primaries the person I really want to win is:

Blown away by blowback (updated)

Sun Jun 18, 2006 at 06:26:27 AM PDT

Of all the challenges facing our republic, from 45 million without health insurance to the fact that our electoral system is so compromised that we now have a President who was elected to neither of his two terms in office, there is one challenge that, to me at least, looms above all others in terms of its scope, its comprehensiveness, and its deadly import.

This challenge has been mounting for at least 50 years, compounded by Presidents of both political parties.  And, as is often the case with major crises, it most affects those with the least political power, the least societal voice.

No, it is not climate change and global warming (which would be 2nd on my list...but let's not have a disagreement about that just now).  It is the military-industrial(/corporate multinational-think thank)complex, presided over by an executive branch with vastly expanded power.  And frankly, fellow progressive bloggers, I find myself silenced, wide-eyed and mouth agape, at the enormity of our situation and the magnitude of our responsibility.  Would you follow me below?
